كَتَبتُI wrote وَدَمعيand my tears مُستَهِلٌّstreaming صَبابةًout of longing
يُداعبcaresses كَفِّيmy hand كُلَّماwhenever كَتَبتْit wrote سَطراa line
I wrote, my tears streaming out of longing,
Caressing my hand whenever it wrote a line.
وَإِنَّand indeed فُؤاديmy heart عِندَat ذِكرِكَthe mention of you ذائِبٌmelting
فَكَيفَhow, then بِماءِwith the water of الدَمعِtears فيin مُقلَةٍan eye شَكرىbrimming
And indeed my heart melts at the mention of you;
What, then, of the water of tears in a brimming eye?
