The noble sons of al-Khuri lamented in sorrow,
after the loss of Hanun, the generous and illustrious.
شَهمٌa noble-hearted man لَقَدindeed غَدَرَتacted treacherously بِهِtoward him أَيديthe hands of القَضاfate

A noble-hearted man—indeed, the hands of fate betrayed him,
and brought down a pillar of virtues and merits.
قَدindeed كانَhe was لِلمَلهوفِfor the distressed أَفضَلَthe best مَلجَأrefuge
كَرَماًin generosity ولَلِأَيتامِand to orphans أَرأَفَthe most compassionate والدِfather
He was indeed the best refuge for the distressed,
in his generosity, and the most compassionate father to orphans.
وَلَقَدand indeed مَضىhe departed يَبغيseeking جِوارَdwelling beside إِلهِهِhis God

And indeed he departed, seeking to dwell beside his God,
in haste, and was the most honored guest in His presence.
وَلِذاكَand therefore نالَhe attained كَماas تؤرِّخُyou record عِندَهُin His presence

And thus he attained, as you record, in His presence,
the loftiest honor in everlasting bliss.
