يَسقيكَmay it water you ياO قَبرُgrave هتّانَa downpour الرِضىdivine favor سَحَراbefore dawn
Visit noble Ibn Akkawi’s resting place, and say:
“May a downpour of divine favor water you, O grave, before dawn.”
شَهمٌa noble-hearted man قَضىspent فيin تُقىreverence for الرَحمانِthe All-Merciful مُدَّتهُhis lifetime
وَلَمand did not يَزَلcease بِصَنيعِfor doing الخَيرِgood مُشتَهِراrenowned
A noble-hearted man, he spent his lifetime in reverence for the All-Merciful,
And never ceased to be renowned for doing good.
لَقَدindeed دَعاهُcalled him إَلَيهِto Himself رَبُّهُhis Lord فَمَضىso he departed
فَوراًat once وَأَبقىand left لَناfor us الأَحزانَsorrows وَالكَدَراand distress
His Lord indeed called him to Himself, and he departed
At once, leaving us sorrows and distress.
فَقُلتُthen I said إِذwhen أَرَّخواthey recorded the date of لَحداًa tomb أَقامَhe dwelt بِهِin it
بِلُطفِthrough the kindness of مَولاهُhis Lord لطفُLutf (kindness) اللَهِAllah (God) قَدindeed ظَفِراhas triumphed
Then I said, when they dated the tomb in which he dwelt:
“Through his Lord’s kindness, Lutf Allah has indeed triumphed.”
