O night whose cups delighted with convivial joy,

So through her minds savored the sweetest sip.

She traced her beauty to beauty's Joseph, and made

Every heart through her Jacob's heart when he was forsaken.

She truly captured our affections; then turned

Toward her, with love's sorrows, every frame.

So had Jacob's eye beheld her, there would have arisen

Within him a distraction from his anguished heart.

A gifted man of keen native talent unveiled her for us,

A master hand in every refined art.

And placed within her, from his grace and character,

Wonders of magic holding sway over minds.

And clothed her in a robe of Joseph's beauty,

With none to match that shirt [epithet unclear].

And hung about her neck, from Jacob's tears as they streamed,

Necklaces of pearls arrayed in splendor.

So may he ever remain a garden of delicate charms, reviving

Every ailing soul with the sweet fragrance of his breath.

The breeze of gratitude passes through his tender boughs,

Spreading perfume's scent in every place.
