Be alert and awaken, O Arabs!
Awaken and be alert, O Arabs
Calamity has overflowed until knees are submerged.
The calamities have become overwhelming

Why soothe yourselves with hopes that deceive you,
Why are you still wishfully thinking
While you lie as spoils in the palms of annihilation?
While you are being plundered mercilessly

God is greatest! What slumber is this? Already
God is the Greatest! What is this slumber?
The cradle has complained of you, and the Lord has longed for you.
The cradle has lamented you and the Lord yearns for you

How much injustice you endure without complaining
You are provoked, yet no anger shows in you!
And how much anger you swallow without showing

You have grown used to humiliation, until to you it is
You have become so accustomed to humiliation
Second nature—and some human traits are acquired.
That it has become your nature, though part of one's nature can be acquired

And through long humiliation your proud spirit has deserted you,
Your dignity has abandoned you after enduring humiliation for so long
So neither degradation nor destruction pains you.
You feel no pain from annihilation or disability

God give you patience, if only your patience
At the cavalry's clash, when the horses surge!
Was in the battlefield when the horses jostle

How far apart are patience that brings humiliation
How much patience in the morn turns to disgrace by dusk
And patience that draws the milk of glory!
And how much patience at dawn earns glory at dust

So prepare yourselves for the cause and seize
From your time an opportunity the ages have withheld.
An opportunity from your time, though opportunities are few

Do not seek glory for yourselves through wishes
Success is not genuine unless the striving is sincere.
Glory is not truthful unless the striving is truthful

Abandon partisanship and unite as one front
United for concord and the repelling of oppression.
For concord and to fend off injustice you band together

For you are the majority group, and the lesser group gains victory
Though small, has won full victory when united!
When the victorious rallies around it

It is he who has weakened your strength with feebleness
And left your unity splintered apart;

And unleashed tyranny in your lands until

Its lands became ruins while others’ lands flourish

And he installed the foreigner to rule you despite the humiliation
Driving you at his whim wherever he turns;
Taking you wherever his whims sway

And their finest troops are fraud and lies.
Their finest troops are treachery and falsehood

No promise remains valid when they make it

While others lodged to seek fine fortune

Thus, the land’s owner among you is employed on his estate
Is a servant, and one reared at home is an exile.
And the household’s son makes his bread abroad

Which lightning bolts avoid as they strike

So hasten towards death and find relief through it
Instead of the life of one who has died a death full of toil.
From a life filled with weariness and fatigue

Have patience - O Turkish nation that has oppressed
For ages; before long, the veils shall be lifted.
For ages - soon the veil shall be lifted

In their events, wonders will appear to man.
