قَدalready فارَقَdeparted from اليَومَtoday آلِthe family of الموصِلِيِّal-Mawsili فَتىًa young man
قَد فارَقَ اليَومَ آلِ الموصِلِيِّ فَتىً
كَالغُصنِlike a branch أَصبَحَhas become تَحتَbeneath التُربِthe soil يَنغَرِسُis planted
كَالغُصنِ أَصبَحَ تَحتَ التُربِ يَنغَرِسُ
Today a young man has departed from the al-Mawsili family,
Like a branch, he is now planted beneath the soil.
فَعزَّso console عَنهُfor his loss أَباًa father ذابَتْhas melted away حُشاشَتُهُhis remaining life
فَعزَّ عَنهُ أَباً ذابَتْ حُشاشَتُهُ
حُزناًfrom grief وَأَدمُعُهُand his tears كَالسُحبِlike clouds تَنحَبسُare held back
حُزناً وَأَدمُعُهُ كَالسُحبِ تَنحَبسُ
So console a father for his loss, whose remaining life has melted away
From grief, while his tears, like clouds, are held back.
وَقَلْand say لإِلياسَto Elias فيin عامٍa year نُؤرِّخُهُwe record its date
وَقَلْ لإِلياسَ في عامٍ نُؤرِّخُهُ
أًطلَقَتُI unleashed أَمطارَshowers دَمعٍof tears لَيسَnot تَنبَجِسُgush forth
أًطلَقَتُ أَمطارَ دَمعٍ لَيسَ تَنبَجِسُ
And say to Elias, in a year whose date we record:
"I have unleashed showers of tears that do not gush forth."
