ناحَت بَنو الخُوري الكِرامَ تَأَسُّفا

ناحَت بَنو الخُوري الكِرامَ تَأَسُّفا

مِن بَعدِ حنونَ الكَريمَ الماجدِ

مِن بَعدِ حنونَ الكَريمَ الماجدِ

The noble sons of al-Khuri wailed in sorrow,

The generous people of Al-Khoury grieved

after the passing of Hannun, the generous and illustrious.

After the loss of the noble and glorious Hunon

شَهمٌ لَقَد غَدَرَت بِهِ أَيدي القَضا

شَهمٌ لَقَد غَدَرَت بِهِ أَيدي القَضا

فَهَوَتْ بِرُكنِ فَضائلِ وَمَحامدِ

فَهَوَتْ بِرُكنِ فَضائلِ وَمَحامدِ

A noble-hearted man—the hands of fate indeed betrayed him,

Indeed, the hands of fate betrayed him

and toppled a pillar of virtues and praiseworthy qualities.

And a pillar of virtues and praise collapsed

قَد كانَ لِلمَلهوفِ أَفضَلَ مَلجَأ

قَد كانَ لِلمَلهوفِ أَفضَلَ مَلجَأ

كَرَماً ولَلِأَيتامِ أَرأَفَ والدِ

كَرَماً ولَلِأَيتامِ أَرأَفَ والدِ

He was indeed the finest refuge for the distressed,

He used to be the best refuge for the anguished

through his generosity, and the most compassionate father to orphans.

Generous towards orphans, kinder than a father

وَلَقَد مَضى يَبغي جِوارَ إِلهِهِ

وَلَقَد مَضى يَبغي جِوارَ إِلهِهِ

عجلاً فَكانَ لَديهِ أَكرَمَ وافدِ

عجلاً فَكانَ لَديهِ أَكرَمَ وافدِ

And indeed he departed, seeking nearness to his God,

And he has passed away seeking the refuge of his God

in haste, and became His most honored guest.

In haste, so he was the most honorable arrival

وَلِذاكَ نالَ كَما تؤرِّخُ عِندَهُ

وَلِذاكَ نالَ كَما تؤرِّخُ عِندَهُ

أَسنى الكَرامةِ في النَعيمِ الخالدِ

أَسنى الكَرامةِ في النَعيمِ الخالدِ

And thus, as you chronicle, he attained with Him

And so he attained, as dated in his record

the highest honor in everlasting bliss.
