Here is a letter from a lover, distraught with love;
This is a letter from a lovesick lover,
since parting from you, his torment has dragged on.
whose torment has long endured since parting from you.
لاdo not تَسأَلواask عَنيabout me فَحاليfor my state بَعدَكُمin your absence
لا تَسأَلوا عَني فَحالي بَعدَكُم
حالَthe state of العَليلِthe sick man وَقَدand indeed جَفاهُhas forsaken him طَبيبُهْhis physician
حالَ العَليلِ وَقَد جَفاهُ طَبيبُهْ
Ask not about me—for my state since you left
Do not ask about me, for my state in your absence
is that of an invalid whom his physician has forsaken.
is that of a sick man whose physician has forsaken him.
