وَما بَرِحَت تَصفو لَديهِ المَجالسُ
And a bough in whose shade the drinking companion found cheer long ago;
The sandalwood tree's shade stayed where repentance advanced
And gatherings have never ceased to be merry in its presence.
Nor did the pure gatherings cease to adorn its presence
تَعشَّقهُloved it طَيرُbirds الأَراكةِof the arak tree أَخضَراًgreen

وَحَنَ إِلَيهِ ريشُهُ وَهوَ يابِسُ
The birds of the arak tree loved it when it was green,
The doves of the sanctuary fell in love with its greenery
And their feathers yearned for it when it was dry.
And their feathers yearned for it even when withered
