رَمسٌa grave تَوارَتshe lay hidden فيهِin it خَيرُthe best قَرينَةٍwife
رَمسٌ تَوارَت فيهِ خَيرُ قَرينَةٍ
كَالبَدرِlike the full moon يُخسَفُis eclipsed فيin انتصافِthe middle الأَشهُرِof the months
كَالبَدرِ يُخسَفُ في انتصافِ الأَشهُرِ
A grave wherein the best of wives lies hidden,
Like the full moon eclipsed at midmonth.
تَرَكتshe left لإبراهيمَfor Ibrahim صبَّاغَSabbagh الأَسىsorrow
تَرَكت لإبراهيمَ صبَّاغَ الأَسى
وَثَوَتand she came to rest نَعيماًbliss لَيسَis not بِالمُتَكَدِّرِclouded
وَثَوَت نَعيماً لَيسَ بِالمُتَكَدِّرِ
She left sorrow for Ibrahim Sabbagh,
And came to rest in unclouded bliss.
لحِقتshe joined بِسيسيلَwith Cécile الكَريمةَnoble أَمُّهُhis mother
لحِقت بِسيسيلَ الكَريمةَ أَمُّهُ
فَتَلاقتاso the two of them met بِجوارِbeside رَبٍّa Lord أَكبرِsupreme
فَتَلاقتا بِجوارِ رَبٍّ أَكبرِ
She joined Cécile, his noble mother,
And the two met beside the Supreme Lord.
فَكَتَبَتُso I wrote تاريخيmy chronogram بِجانبِbeside قَبرِهاher grave
فَكَتَبَتُ تاريخي بِجانبِ قَبرِها
حَلَتshe settled عَفيفةُAfifa بِالمَقامِin the abode الأَطهَرِthe purest
حَلَت عَفيفةُ بِالمَقامِ الأَطهَرِ
So I wrote my chronogram beside her grave:
Afifa has settled in the purest abode.
