مِنfrom آلِthe family of فَيّاضَFayyad شَهمٌa gallant man قَدindeed قَضىdied فَثَوىthen came to rest
مِن آلِ فَيّاضَ شَهمٌ قَد قَضى فَثَوى
قَبراًa grave سَقَتهُwatered it المَآقيthe eyes' inner corners مِنfrom دَمِthe blood of المُهَجِhearts
قَبراً سَقَتهُ المَآقي مِن دَمِ المُهَجِ
A gallant man of the Fayyad family has died and come to rest
From the family of Fayyad, a valiant one who fulfilled his duty and passed away
In a grave the eyes have watered with the blood of hearts.
A grave watered by calamities from shed blood
كَريمُa generous man قَومٍa people لَهُhe has فيin المَكرُماتِnoble deeds يَدٌa hand
كَريمُ قَومٍ لَهُ في المَكرُماتِ يَدٌ
مَضَتhas passed وَأَبقَتand left behind ثَناءًpraise أَطيَبَthe sweetest الأَرَجِfragrance
مَضَت وَأَبقَت ثَناءً أَطيَبَ الأَرَجِ
A generous man among his people, he had a hand in noble deeds;
A generous man of a people, he had a helping hand in good deeds
That hand has passed, leaving praise of the sweetest fragrance.
His reputation remains and leaves behind the sweetest fragrance
قَدindeed حَلَّsettled تَحتَbeneath الثَرىthe moist earth بِالجسمِin body مُندَرِجاًenfolded
قَد حَلَّ تَحتَ الثَرى بِالجسمِ مُندَرِجاً
وَنَفسُهُand his soul فيin العُلَىthe heights فيin أَرفَعِthe loftiest الدّرَجِthe ranks
وَنَفسُهُ في العُلَى في أَرفَعِ الدّرَجِ
He has settled beneath the earth, his body enfolded,
He has descended under the earth with his body reposing
While his soul is on high, in the loftiest ranks.
While his soul ascends on high, to the most exalted rank
فَقالَthen said تاريخُthe chronogram الواحٍtablets أَخطٌI inscribe بِهاon them
فَقالَ تاريخُ الواحٍ أَخطٌ بِها
ياO قَبرُgrave زاركَhas visited you لُطفُthe kindness of اللَّهِGod فَاِبتَهَجِso rejoice
يا قَبرُ زاركَ لُطفُ اللَّهِ فَاِبتَهَجِ
Then the chronogram on tablets I inscribe declared:
So the date inscribed on a tablet says with confused letters
O grave, God's kindness has visited you, so rejoice!
Oh grave! May God's kindness visit you, so rejoice!
