لِبَنِيfor the sons of بِشارةَBishara بَعدَafter أَسعدَAs‘ad فَجعَةٌa calamity
لِبَنِي بِشارةَ بَعدَ أَسعدَ فَجعَةٌ
ذابَتmelted بِجَمرَتِهاthrough its burning ember الكِلَىthe kidneys وَالأَكبُدُand the livers
ذابَت بِجَمرَتِها الكِلَى وَالأَكبُدُ
A calamity befell the sons of Bishara after As‘ad’s loss;
For the family of Bishara, after the happiest one, there is deep sorrow
Its burning ember melted kidneys and livers.
Their livers and guts melted from its embers
أَولَىbrought upon أَباهُhis father خَليلَKhalil سَعدٍSa‘d حَسرَةًanguish
أَولَى أَباهُ خَليلَ سَعدٍ حَسرَةً
أَبَداًforever لَفَقدِbecause of the loss of شَبابهِhis youth تَتَجدَّدُis renewed
أَبَداً لَفَقدِ شَبابهِ تَتَجدَّدُ
He brought his father, Khalil Sa‘d, an anguish
His father deserves more anguish over Khalil Sa'd
Forever renewed by the loss of his youth.
Forever missing his youth that keeps renewing
وَلَقَدand indeed أَتاهُhe came to him فَقالَand he said أَبشرrejoice بِالرِّضىin approval
وَلَقَد أَتاهُ فَقالَ أَبشر بِالرِّضى
مِنِّيfrom me وَرَحمةِand the mercy of خالقٍa Creator لاnot تَنفَدُruns out
مِنِّي وَرَحمةِ خالقٍ لا تَنفَدُ
And indeed he came to him and said, “Rejoice in approval
He came to him and said: Receive the pleasure
From me, and in a Creator’s mercy that never runs out.
From me and the mercy of a Creator that never depletes
قَدindeed سِرتَyou have journeyed عَنaway from تاريخِthe chronicle of سَعدٍSa‘d طالِباًseeking
قَد سِرتَ عَن تاريخِ سَعدٍ طالِباً
جَناتِgardens of عَرشٍa throne أَنتَyou فيهاin them أَسعَدُhappier
جَناتِ عَرشٍ أَنتَ فيها أَسعَدُ
You have departed from Sa‘d’s chronicle, seeking
You have happily passed the date of Sa'd the seeker
Gardens of the Throne, where you are happier.”
Of the gardens of the Throne, wherein you are most felicitous
