لغنطوسَfor Ghantous الكَريمَthe noble مَقَرُّan abode عَفوٍof pardon
لغنطوسَ الكَريمَ مَقَرُّ عَفوٍ
لَهُfor him الرحمنُthe All-Merciful بِالرِّضوانِwith divine favor عَمّاshowered abundantly
لَهُ الرحمنُ بِالرِّضوانِ عَمّا
For noble Ghantous there is an abode of pardon;
The generous protector's abode is forgiveness
The All-Merciful has showered him with favor.
The Merciful forgives him with contentment for what has passed
مَضىhe departed لِنَعيمِfor the bliss of خالِقِهِhis Creator وَأَبقىand left behind
مَضى لِنَعيمِ خالِقِهِ وَأَبقى
لآلِfor the family of القَشعَمِيِّal-Qash‘ami أَسىًsorrow وَغَمّاand grief
لآلِ القَشعَمِيِّ أَسىً وَغَمّا
He departed for his Creator’s bliss and left behind
For the bliss of his Creator he remained
Sorrow and grief for the family of al-Qash‘ami.
For the Qashami family he left behind sorrow and grief
فَتىًa young man قَدindeed كانَhe was فيamid الغَمراتِperils رُكناًa pillar of support
فَتىً قَد كانَ في الغَمراتِ رُكناً
وَلِلأَيتامِand for the orphans كانَhe was أَباًa father وَأُمّاand a mother
وَلِلأَيتامِ كانَ أَباً وَأُمّا
A young man who had been a pillar amid perils,
A young man who was a pillar in tribulations
And to orphans had been both father and mother.
And was a father and mother to the orphans
قَدindeed اِبتَدَأَتbegan أَوائِلُهُhis earliest days بِخَيرٍin goodness
قَد اِبتَدَأَت أَوائِلُهُ بِخَيرٍ
وَنالَand he attained مُؤرّخاًcommemorated in a chronogram بِالخَيرِin goodness ختماan ending
وَنالَ مُؤرّخاً بِالخَيرِ ختما
His earliest days began in goodness,
His beginnings were with goodness
And, commemorated in a chronogram, he attained an end in goodness.
And he attained the seal of goodness in history
