هَذهْthis عَروسُbride الحَولِthe year قَدindeed أَودىbrought death بِهاupon her
هَذهْ عَروسُ الحَولِ قَد أَودى بِها
قَدرٌa fate أَذابَmelted بهاthrough her حَشاًentrails وَكُبوداand livers
قَدرٌ أَذابَ بها حَشاً وَكُبودا
This bride of a year has been carried off
This bride of the year, fate has done away with her
by a fate that melted entrails and livers through her loss.
A decree that melted her joy and gloom
تَرَكَتshe left ديارَhomes of بَنيsons of بَشارةَBishara فَاِنثَنىand so turned
تَرَكَت ديارَ بَني بَشارةَ فَاِنثَنى
طَيبَsweetness of البِشائرِglad tidings بَعدَهاafter her تَعديداlamentation
طَيبَ البِشائرِ بَعدَها تَعديدا
She left the homes of Bani Bishara, turning
She left the abode of the Bani Bashara and leaned away
the sweetness of glad tidings, after her departure, into lamentation.
After her, good tidings were diminished and lessened
أَبقَتshe left behind مَرارةَbitterness of لَهفةٍanguish لِقَرينِهاfor her husband
أَبقَت مَرارةَ لَهفةٍ لِقَرينِها
أَبَداًforever تَجَدِّدُrenews حُزنهُhis sorrow تَجديداafresh
أَبَداً تَجَدِّدُ حُزنهُ تَجديدا
She left her husband the bitterness of anguish,
She left behind the bitterness of yearning for her companion
forever renewing his sorrow afresh.
Forever renewing his sadness and grief
فَأَتىso came مُؤرِّخُهاher chronicler يُعزِّيto console فاقِداًa bereaved man
فَأَتى مُؤرِّخُها يُعزِّي فاقِداً
رَحلتdeparted أَنيستُهُhis companion فَعادَand so he became فَريداalone
رَحلت أَنيستُهُ فَعادَ فَريدا
So her chronicler came to console a bereaved man:
So her chronicler came to give solace to the bereft one
His companion departed, and he was left alone.
His companion journeyed on, and he was left alone
