وَيَومٍ بِهِ مَحمودُ طَلَعَتَ قَد جَلا

وَيَومٍ بِهِ مَحمودُ طَلَعَتَ قَد جَلا

بَديعَ محياً بِالميامِن مَسعودِ

بَديعَ محياً بِالميامِن مَسعودِ

And on a day when Mahmoud Tal‘at had shone forth,

On the auspicious day when the blessed Mahmoud was born

Fair of face—a day blessed with auspicious omens—

The embodiment of perfection, his destiny blessed

فَوافيتُ بِالبُشرى أَباهُ مُؤرِّخاً

فَوافيتُ بِالبُشرى أَباهُ مُؤرِّخاً

وَقُلتُ أَلا فاهنأ بِطَلعةِ مَحمودِ

وَقُلتُ أَلا فاهنأ بِطَلعةِ مَحمودِ

So I came to his father with glad tidings, composing a chronogram,

I came to his father with glad tidings

And I said: “Behold, rejoice then at Mahmoud’s appearance!”

And said: Congratulations on Mahmoud's blessed birth
