    فإنك إنسان وجدك آدم

    Remain at peace, and endure oppression and harm;

    For you are human, and your forefather is Adam.

    And suppose you resent the world and its injustice—

    Can you ward off injustice, when injustice is inescapable?

    Children of Adam, why has vanity hurled you

    To its far reaches, until it came to rule?

    ومن أجلكم تجري الغمام الروائم

    You think the earth has been spread out for you,

    And for your sake the rain-bearing clouds drift;

    تقر بها الألحاظ وهي هوائم

    And that the radiant stars rose aloft as adornment,

    In which the eyes find delight as they wander;

    Then why do you not string those scattered stars together,

    So your jewelry and amulets might be made from them?
