O mother, do not be distraught by what assails us
O mother, do not grieve for what befalls us
Of calamities, nor grieve over what has passed.
Of tribulations, nor lament what is past

ويقسم اللَه أرزاقاً وأقواتا
Fate's decrees justly carry out judgment upon us,
Fates run their course in us, the Judge's rule is just
And God apportions livelihoods and provisions.
And God apportions livelihood and sustenance

And every hardship that befalls us leads to relief,
Each tightness moves toward relief
And indeed, ease, like hardship, has an appointed time.
Ease has a time like hardship's time

He has gone astray who hopes to postpone his lot;
Lost is he who hopes to delay his fate
Ismail has died like the ram—he has indeed died.
He died like Ishmael's ram, he died
