O delight of the eye, O my solace,
O solace of my eyes, my home
Quench the burning thirst of the pain-stricken, ailing one.
Quench the burning anguish within

Between me and you lies a surging, roaring sea;
Between you and I lies abundant, overflowing vigor
Mountains march upon it, tethered together.
With which mountains march through the ages

If you wished, we would be brought close, however far
If you wished, you drew us near, and if you distanced
the paths of parting stretch, by the flying ships.
The ways of separation, the birds of ships

فكأنهاso they seem like رأسٌa head علىupon بدنa body
They sail, bound fast to what they ride,
Flow, having been laden with what they embarked
as though each were a head upon a body.
As though they were a head upon a body

أوand (introducing a question) لستyou are not تركبyou ride هائلfearsome الشجنin sorrow
Do not fear my sorrows when they rage:
Do not fear my anguish when it is roiled
And do you not sail a sea of dreadful sorrow?
Are you not riding the mighty flood of sorrow?

The heart is a sea with no bottom,
The heart sways, knowing no rest
Rife with storms, its crests foaming.
The tempests gathered, the seas foamed

But in its depths lie pearls,
But within its depths are gems
And pearls more enduring than time.
And pearls more lasting than time
