Is there no visit to slake and quench my thirst?

Is there no solace to heal the heart of anguish

and cure it? I am in pain from longing.

an oath at whose hearing the mind takes flight,

    and the eye [turns] toward me, weeping blood;

and by the blood boiling in my veins, and by heartache,

and by despair and the soul that does not hope,

and by exhausting sorrow, sleeplessness and grief,

and by withering hope that brings no help,

and by love—do humble my enviers

and silence reproachers who have designs on you,

And do not bring the heart tears and anguish,

while you are its delight, a lush meadow.

    I see hope's foliage wither—water it

with your nearness: nearness is despair's downfall.

then command me, and I shall die: I obey whatever you choose.

And if not, kiss a cup of wine and pass it to me,

so I may drink a kiss from it when I quaff.
