And many a veil I sought to lift,
فذادso it repelled لحظيmy gaze وثنيand curbed طماحهits ambition
فذاد لحظي وثني طماحه
قدindeed خضنthey have waded فيناabout us ألسنtongues جراحهwounding
قد خضن فينا ألسن جراحه
Yet it repelled my gaze and curbed its ambition.
Wounding tongues have waded into our affairs;
إذاwhen غدtomorrow راحgoes بناwith us مراحهits course
إذا غد راح بنا مراحه
كسرwill break كلevery طاعنassailant رماحهhis spears
كسر كل طاعن رماحه
When tomorrow carries us along its course,
Every assailant will break his spears.
