إليكم وحادي الشوق أشرف حاديا
A lover came, longing urging his heart onward
A lover came, his heart aflame with yearning
Toward you—and longing's guide is the noblest of guides—
To you, led by the noblest guide of longing

Until he drew near your dwelling place and your sanctuary,
Until he drew near your abode and refuge
And the lovesick one's hands almost reaped his wishes.
And the hands of passion almost grasped their wants

فما حيلتي يا إخوتي ما احتياليا
Fate cast him away from you, though your home was near.
Fate cast him far from you, near to your dwellings
So what recourse have I, my brothers? What can I devise?
What can I do, my brothers? What schemes have I?

إلى الشيخ سعد بعض ما بي وداعيا
So evening found me on the island's soil, complaining
I spent the evening in the land of Jazirah
To Sheikh Saʿd of some of what ails me, and making entreaties.
Lamenting to Sheikh Saad some of my farewell
