I praised humankind, alerted them, and censured them.

And I rebuked [word unclear], but no rebuke was heeded.

And I drove myself over land and sea, seeking

A supporter, but found no refined noble chief.

Who, then, will find me one who rises this morning to the heights

And calls for what I call for, and seeks what I seek?

Religion's cheek and face have become dust-covered among us.

Yet among our forefathers it was never dust-covered.

Was she sold—was she sold at auction—with her tears

Streaming, and Ya'rub's little daughter shown no mercy?

So, O sons of Abd al-Madan, my paternal uncles!

And O sons of Hamdan, O kinsmen of my lineage!

Will you not exact vengeance from those who subject you to

An ordeal—'except what' [wording unclear]—in every east and west?

I see you have submitted and become servants to an unbeliever.

Yet I know you do not submit to a wrongdoer.

So Ka'b no longer knows how to thrust with spears,

Nor Hamdan, the horses' saddlecloths, sons of one father.

Then call upon Hamdan, and call upon Harith.

And rise as a champion for God, O son of al-Muhadhdhab.

And close my words with blessings, offering peace

Upon Ahmad, sent forth from the house of Ya'rub.
