and hope to have with God what was never theirs:

the winning of beautiful, rosy-hued houris.

God has willed it only as a rank for one who

advances in the fray amid deadly perils.

Surely the coward was mistaken when he thought that

houris or the angels' salutation would greet him.

or broke the covenant, but the weaklings.

Has any faith ever gained might except through force

and blows and thrusts from the hands of the destitute?

The lion's clash with his opponent is followed

by exchanging laughter with the radiant, laughing houris.

May God curse the blameworthy man who thinks otherwise.

May God curse whoever accepts abasement; he

has thought ill of the Watcher who brings succor.

with his impetuous soul at the forefront of battle,

chaste, unbowed, sound of mind, following

    the path of those who sell their lives—the finest of paths;

a man of mettle who, once resolved, presses on with his resolve,

like a fine-edged sword, severing heads.

Muhammad, has it pleased you that I have left

no fool's face unblackened by it?

the truth shone, came to smile—what a smile!

So if the fray has erupted, it only

rages for the death of the doomed followers of falsehood.

You are a partner, so aid, O Muhammad,

your God and the brethren with a partner's aid.

Respond! By God, not for an hour have I accepted

the tyrants' donning of royal garb.

will kiss them after being trampled by hooves.

It is enough for you that houris, glory, and high honor

all incline together toward every bold assailant.

For I see blessings only as though they were

hung upon finely honed, severing swords.

I have risen—no, by God, I have not risen seeking

anything but the favor of the Lord of interwoven stars.

So come in earnest with your aid, for I

remembered you, and the branches of darkness grew black.

But for one people's grief on account of another, I would not

signal with my shoulders, O son of the noblest,

a young man responds, he wins high honor, O son of Malik.

a bond of fellowship in the Exalted One—exalted is the Sovereign.
