وقمنا إلى الهيجا نهز الصوارما
She saw us after we had wound the turbans about ourselves,
We stood with veils covering our faces,
And we rose to battle, brandishing sharp swords.
And rose with swords unsheathed for battle.

Upon her cheek: 'Stop, stop! Remain standing where you are.
"Stop, stand still where you are!"

That bride you shunned for a month
And for nine years had been a sinner in the beds.
And nine years you wronged in captivity.

She visited us one night, having moistened
One night she brought us fresh milk,
Her curly hair, black in hue, coal-black, with ben-tree oil.
Black as the night yet foaming white.

The jewelry glints upon her, and her perfume
Her jewelry shone bright, and her scent
Rouses whoever is asleep to embrace.
Awoke longing in those asleep.

Her after she turned away, trailing her robes.
Her after she turned away from the crowd.

So I walked beside her in the darkness, while she
I walked with her in the dark, both of us
And I were both watched; we feared gossip.
Guarded, fearing gossip.

I took what I wanted from her though I did not
Seeking to steal the secluded woman's garments.
Intend to steal the garments of the hidden one.

If she does not conceive, no matter, I cast
In revealing this secret anything but noble deeds.
No seed, only lusting honorably.
