بمثل ألحاظه لمغرمهِ
Many an archer shoots from a bow like his eyebrow,
The lover aimed with eyes like his beloved's brow
With arrows like his glances, at the one enamored of him.
At me, though he called another's name, more fair;
سمَّىhe named بغيريwith a name other than mine مفوِّقاًnocking an arrow ودميand my blood
سمَّى بغيري مفوِّقاً ودمي

فرحت وحدي صريع أسهمه
He named another as he nocked his arrow—and my blood [was shed];
Then was I glad when only I was struck down by his arrows.
So I alone lay slain by his arrows.
