I have not forgotten our convivial gathering

I have not forgotten the gathering in Insnā

in the garden of Judge Salah,

In the garden of al-Qadi al-Salah

رب العوارف واللط

رب العوارف واللط

ائف والمكارم والسماح

ائف والمكارم والسماح

master of favors and kind-

Lord of the gnostics, subtleties, refinements, generosity and leniency

nesses, noble deeds, and generosity;

My master of cheerful demeanor among the scholars

مولى طليق الوجه عند الع

مولى طليق الوجه عند الع

المين سموح راح

المين سموح راح

a cheerful-faced lord among man-

Generous, gentle, kind

kind, generous of hand.

Thanks to God for our pleasant stay

لله حسن مقامنا

لله حسن مقامنا

إذ نحن في البسط السراح

إذ نحن في البسط السراح

By God, how lovely was our stay,

As we are in the spacious garden

when we enjoyed unrestrained ease!

Discussing sincere conversations and joking wholeheartedly

ل ونعتفى جد المزاح

ل ونعتفى جد المزاح

We exchanged enchantment that was law-

Our souls intoxicated with bliss and delight without boredom

ful, and sought earnestness in jest,

In the shade of a garden spreading the fragrance of flowers and plants

ونفوسنا سكرى التنع

ونفوسنا سكرى التنع

م والسرور بغير راح

م والسرور بغير راح

while our souls were drunk on enjoy-

Where the moist breeze has settled on the fresh water

ment and joy, without wine,

And birds sing in the bushes with delightful melodies

في ظل روض عمه

في ظل روض عمه

نفح الأزاهر والأقاح

نفح الأزاهر والأقاح

in the shade of a garden suffused

And fruits of branches are scattered around from all directions

with the fragrance of blossoms and daisies,

Greetings O day of harvest

حيث النسيم الرطب قد

حيث النسيم الرطب قد

أرسى على الماء الفراح

أرسى على الماء الفراح

where the moist breeze had

Every passerby stayed and left

anchored joy upon the water.

Since the day of Insnā whose purity has not faded or become turbid

والطير تشدو في الغصو

والطير تشدو في الغصو

ن بطيب ألحان صحاح

ن بطيب ألحان صحاح

And the birds sang in the branch-

I do not forget, I do not forget our gathering in you in the early dawn

es, with sweet, flawless melodies;

Blessings come to us from the tomorrow and to the spirits

وفواكه الأغصان تنثر

وفواكه الأغصان تنثر

فيه من كل النواحي

فيه من كل النواحي

and fruits from the branches were scattered

Our friend al-Salah still inspires in times of piety

within it, from every side.

And remains forever in the days under protection and success

حييت يا يوم الجنين

حييت يا يوم الجنين

ة كل غادية وراح

Hail to you, O day of the little gar-

As the cooing of doves in the evening and in the dawn

What a day of fellowship! No one trou-

bled its serenity—neither talebearer nor faultfinder.

ي فيك بالغر الصباح

Whatever I forget, I shall not forget that meeting

of mine in you, with the radiant, fair-faced ones.

تغدو علينا الطيبات م

ن الغد وإلى الرواح

Good things came to us fr-

om morning until evening.

لا زال صاحبنا الصلا

لا زال صاحبنا الصلا

ح يؤم في حال الصلاح

May our companion Sala-

h always be sought out in a state of well-being,

وبقى مدى الأيام في

حرز السلامة والنجاح

and remain, through all the days, within

the shelter of safety and success,

ما غردت ورق الحمائم

في المساء وفي الصباح

في المساء وفي الصباح

as long as the gray doves sing

in the evening and in the morning.
