These worlds are an utterance; You are its meaning.

Each, when you make it speak, says: “God.”

    وباسمك الله مَجراه ومُرساهُ

    Being is a sea, and the ark of the cosmos sails;

And in Your name, O God, are its course and anchorage.

From the light of Your face the whole cosmos shone,

Until its edifice was raised with the celestial spheres.

Throne and carpet, and angels held in service—

And all prostrate before God, their Lord.

Glory to Him who brought things into being from nothing,

And lavished His blessings on the cosmos before it existed.

To whoever ascribes light to the celestial spheres, I said:

“Whence would the lights have risen without Him?”

My Lord, my Lord, the sea of generosity has drowned me,

And all creation has lost its way in this sea.

    بحرُ السماء وبحرُ الأرض أشباهُ

    Thus ships sail, just as the celestial spheres move;

The sea of heaven and the sea of earth are counterparts.

And all of them are blessings embracing creation.

Blessed is God—His gifts cannot be numbered.

O You who sunder the joined whole of this existence, just as

Its decrees were already inscribed in foreknowledge.

Be for me as You were for me when I had no deed

To hope in, nor any sin I had committed to fear.

While You conveyed me through the presences of holiness,

Until his dwelling was established in this cosmos.

How shameful for the servant to forget while You remember him,

While You tend him with gentleness and kindness.

Your forgiveness, O God, for the ignorance with which I was afflicted!

For how could I forget Him who bestowed my existence?

A veil from my own self lies over me; I cannot lift it

Except through the aid of guidance from You that You approve.

So return to me with the generosity You have accustomed me to,

For You are the most generous of those whose mercy I have hoped for.

    Then blessings—God's blessings—everlasting,

Upon the one He called by name in the Remembrance:

The Chosen One, when the flints of light had not yet been struck,

    Nor had its kindling flared from the garden's breeze;

And the Elect, when the cosmos's bud-sheaths had not yet opened

    To reveal radiant blossoms whose sight delights the eye;

Nor had a river of daylight burst forth over

The pearls of the stars, covering and concealing them.

O first of the messengers, or O their seal in honor,

And God sanctified his meaning in both states.

I have stored up nothing but love for you, which I raise

As a means of approach to the Generous One on the day I meet Him.

May God, whose elect you are, bless you,

As long as mouths are sweetened by delightful remembrance.

And may He enfold his companions in repose and fragrant basil,

And lavish on them the purest sweet water of pardon.

And especially favor his exalted Helpers, his elect,

And may they be lodged in the highest place beside God.

Helpers of his faith, banners of his pledge of allegiance—

Exalted virtues for which God has given praise.

And may God strengthen him who revives their striving,

And may glory join his end to his beginning.

Whose essence is chosen from the very heart of glory,

Passed as a gift between Nasr and the Ansar.

Knowledge, forbearance, and beneficence are his character,

And valor and generosity are some of his traits.
