وَجْهُthe face of هذاthis اليومِday باسِمْsmiling
وَجْهُ هذا اليومِ باسِمْ
وشَذَاand the fragrance of الأزهارِthe flowers ناسِمْwafting
وشَذَا الأزهارِ ناسِمْ
The face of this day is smiling,
This day dawns with auspicious name
And the flowers' fragrance wafts.
And flowers bloom with fragrant fame
هَاتِهَاbring it صَاحِO friend كُؤُوسَاgoblets
هَاتِهَا صَاحِ كُؤُوسَا
جالباتٍbringing للسُرورِfor joy
جالباتٍ للسُرورِ
Bring it, friend, in goblets,
Raise these cups of cheer
Bringing delight,
Bringing joy and good cheer
وارتقبْand await منهاfrom them شُموسَاsuns
وارتقبْ منها شُموسَا
طالعاتٍrising فيin حُبورِjoy
طالعاتٍ في حُبورِ
And watch for suns from them,
And await the dawning suns
Rising in joy.
Rising bright in sweet dawns
ماnot ترىyou see الروضthe garden عَروسَاa bride
ما ترى الروض عَروسَا
فيin حُلىadornments نَوْرٍblossom ونُورِand light
في حُلى نَوْرٍ ونُورِ
Do you not see the garden as a bride,
See the garden, a radiant bride
In adornments of blossom and light?
In ornaments of light and pride
وأَتَتْand came رسْلُmessengers النَّواسِمْthe gentle breezes
وأَتَتْ رسْلُ النَّواسِمْ
تجتليbeholding هذيthese النَّواسِمْthe gentle breezes
تجتلي هذي النَّواسِمْ
The messengers of gentle breezes have come,
The gentle breezes come whispering
Beholding these gentle breezes.
Making the blossoms dance, singing
قدalready أَهَلَّتْappeared بالبشَائِرْwith glad tidings
قد أَهَلَّتْ بالبشَائِرْ
أَضْحَكَتْmade laugh ثَغْرَthe mouth of الأَزَاهِرْthe blossoms
أَضْحَكَتْ ثَغْرَ الأَزَاهِرْ
They have appeared with glad tidings,
Bearing the tidings of gladness
Making the mouth of the blossoms laugh.
Making the flowers smile in their gladness
سَنْحَتْappeared فيin يُمْنِthe good fortune of طائِرْa bird
سَنْحَتْ في يُمْنِ طائِرْ
ونظمنَand were strung كالجواهرْlike jewels
ونظمنَ كالجواهرْ
They appeared under a bird's auspicious omen,
Composing sweet poems of splendor
And were strung like jewels.
Like glistening jewels and tender
فانشروهاso spread them فيamong العَشائِرْthe clans
فانشروها في العَشائِرْ
إنَّindeed هذاthis الصنعَwork باهرْwondrous
إنَّ هذا الصنعَ باهرْ
So spread them among the clans:
Spread such tidings through the clans
Indeed, this work is wondrous.
For this is a work of the artisan's hands
وَأَشِيعُواand proclaim فيthroughout العَوَالمْthe worlds
وَأَشِيعُوا في العَوَالمْ
الْغَنِيْthe self-sufficient one بِاللهِthrough God سَالِمْsafe and sound
الْغَنِيْ بِاللهِ سَالِمْ
And proclaim throughout the worlds:
And let it resound in the lands
Al-Ghani bi-llah is safe and sound.
Of the One Rich, the Lord of Peace
أَيُّwhat نُورٍlight يَتَوَقَدْblazes
أَيُّ نُورٍ يَتَوَقَدْ
أَيِّwhat بدرٍfull moon يَتَلاَلاَsparkles
أَيِّ بدرٍ يَتَلاَلاَ
What a light blazes!
What light kindles and glows?
What a full moon sparkles!
What moon rises and shows?
أَيُّwhat فخرglory يتخَلَّدْendures forever
أَيُّ فخر يتخَلَّدْ
أَيُّwhat غَيْثٍlife-giving rain يَتَوَالىcomes in succession
أَيُّ غَيْثٍ يَتَوَالى
What glory endures forever!
What pride immortal will be?
What life-giving rain keeps falling!
What rain perpetually?
إِنَّماonly المولىthe lord محمَّدْMuhammad
إِنَّما المولى محمَّدْ
رحمةُthe mercy of اللهِGod تعالىexalted is He
رحمةُ اللهِ تعالى
It is none other than our lord Muhammad,
Only the Master Muhammad
The mercy of God Most High.
Allah's Mercy and Grace imbued
كَفُّهُhis palm بحرُa sea of المقاسِمْallotted gifts
كَفُّهُ بحرُ المقاسِمْ
وبهاand at it حجُpilgrimage المباسِمْsmiling mouths
وبها حجُ المباسِمْ
His palm is a sea of bounty,
His hand, the sea of bounty
And there smiling mouths make pilgrimage.
By it the valiant find booty
خَيْرُthe best of أمْلاَكِkings الزَّمانِthe age
خَيْرُ أمْلاَكِ الزَّمانِ
مِنْamong بنيthe sons of سَعْدٍSa'd ونَصْرِand Nasr
مِنْ بني سَعْدٍ ونَصْرِ
The best of the kings of the age,
Best of all eras' possessions
Among the sons of Sa'd and Nasr.
Of Sa'd and Nasr's processions
ماnot تَرَىyou see أَنَّthat الشَّوانيthe galleys
ما تَرَى أَنَّ الشَّواني
فيon صَعِيدthe surface of البَرِّdry land تجريsail
في صَعِيد البَرِّ تجري
Do you not see that the galleys
See the rivers in the vale
Sail over the surface of dry land?
Flowing through hill and dale
قَدْalready أَطَارَتْهاsent them flying التَّهانيcongratulations
قَدْ أَطَارَتْها التَّهاني
دونَwithout بحريِّa sailor وبحرِand a sea
دونَ بحريِّ وبحرِ
Congratulations have sent them flying,
Borne are their waves of joy
Without sailor or sea,
Beyond sea and stream they buoy
مُذْsince رَأَتْthey saw بَحْرَthe sea of النعائِمْblessings
مُذْ رَأَتْ بَحْرَ النعائِمْ
كُلُّهاall of them جارٍunder way وعائِمْand afloat
كُلُّها جارٍ وعائِمْ
Since they saw the sea of blessings,
For they saw the sea of boons
All of them under way and afloat.
With ships and vessels as moons
فَهَنيئاًso congratulations بالشِّفَاءِon recovery
فَهَنيئاً بالشِّفَاءِ
ياO أَمِيرَcommander of المُسْلِمينَاthe Muslims
يا أَمِيرَ المُسْلِمينَا
So congratulations on your recovery,
So glad tidings for healing
O Commander of the Muslims!
Our Prince of Believers appealing
ولناand we have حَقُّthe right to الهَنَاءِjoy
ولنا حَقُّ الهَنَاءِ
وجميعand all العَالَمينَاthe worlds
وجميع العَالَمينَا
And we have a right to rejoice,
And ours the rights to rejoice
And so do all the worlds.
All people, lift your voice
إنif جَهَرْنَاwe speak aloud بالدُّعَاءِin prayer
إن جَهَرْنَا بالدُّعَاءِ
ينطقsays الدَّهْرُtime أَمينَاAmen
ينطق الدَّهْرُ أَمينَا
If we raise our voices in prayer,
If we pray most ardently
Time says, 'Amen.'
The age will say, "Amen," verily
دُمْتَmay you endure محروسَguarded المكارِمْnoble virtues
دُمْتَ محروسَ المكارِمْ
بِظُبَىby the edges of البِيضِthe gleaming swords الصوارِمْthe sharp-cutting ones
بِظُبَى البِيضِ الصوارِمْ
May you endure, your noble virtues guarded
Last with the lofty, guarded morals
By the edges of gleaming, sharp swords.
By the white blades, brandished as laurels
