And light mantled the breasts of the plains.

And the eastern breeze shook hands with the boughs,

So the flowers gaze out through unabashed eyes.

So it wore flowers as a necklace in place of a sash.

And the stars of flowers shine there.

On the pulpit of the gracefully formed bough,

As it bent, swaying with a supple figure.

Its towers have risen above the constellations of heaven.

Nothing like it exists in bygone ages,

Not even the one Ibn Ma' al-Sama built.

Caliph of God—and what an excellent imam!

Time has bestowed on you a wondrous creation.

Settled securely in the shade of a fruitful life.

The narcissus eyes it with a suspicious glance.

So the fairest of days is the season of youth,

And the fairest of the fairest is the day of meeting.

And vanquisher of the confederates in battle,

May the Lord give you glad tidings of a good return,

May God let you enjoy a long life.

To strut in the fresh robe of youth,

Reciting to you through the ages, every year:

"Victory from God, and a conquest near at hand."
