أَإِنسان عين الدهر جفنك قد غدا
يحفُّكsurrounds you منهfrom it طائرa bird اليمنblessing والسعدِand good fortune
يحفُّك منه طائر اليمن والسعدِ
O pupil of Time’s eye, your ship has now become such
Has the eye of time become your eyelid
that from it the bird of blessing and good fortune enfolds you.
That the auspicious bird of Yemen surrounds you?
إذاwhen ما(emphatic particle) هفاfluttered فوقabove الرؤوسthe heads شراعُهُits sail
إذا ما هفا فوق الرؤوس شراعُهُ
أراكit showed you جناحاًa wing مُدَّwas outstretched للجزرfor the ebb والمدِّand the flow
أراك جناحاً مُدَّ للجزر والمدِّ
When its sail flutters above the heads,
When its sail unfurls high above all heads
it shows you a wing outstretched for the ebb and flow.
