ولاand not ينكرdenies الظمآنُthe thirsty man شوقاًa longing إلىfor البحرthe sea
O my lord, kissing your right hand has stirred my longing;
My lord, my kiss to your right hand has exhausted me
And the thirsty man does not deny his longing for the sea.
And the thirsty does not deny longing for the sea
ولماand when رأيتI saw الدهرtime ماطلنيkept me waiting بهاfor it
وشوَّقنيand made me yearn منfrom حيثwhere أدريI know ولاand not أدريI know
And when I saw that time kept me waiting for it,
And when I saw time deceiving me with her
and stirred my longing in ways I knew and did not know,
And making me long for her, knowingly yet unknowingly
بعثتI sent لكto you الزهرthe flowers الجنيِّfreshly picked لعلّهperhaps it

I sent you freshly picked flowers, in the hope that
I sent you the blossoming flowers hoping
mouths of flowers might kiss it on my behalf.
That it would kiss her, on my behalf, the blossoms of flowers
