O grandson of ʿAbd al-Tīn, who fills his belly
The descendants of Abdeltin fill their bellies
With figs—and touch for them elsewhere.
With figs while the others had none
لقدindeed كنتُI was قبلbefore اليومtoday فيكَabout you مُحَيَّراًbewildered
إلىup to أنthat هديتI guided الفكرthought مِنِّيَof mine للسيرِto proceed
Indeed, before today I was bewildered about you,
I was confused about you until this day
Until I guided my thought on its way.
When my thoughts guided me on the path
فقدfor indeed طبتyou became noble منfrom طيرbirds العصيرthe juice بنسبةthrough descent
فخرتyou boasted بهاof it بينamong القضاةthe judges علىover الغيرothers
For you became noble through descent from the birds of juice,
For you have been cured of the bird of fate's juice
A descent you boasted of among the judges, over others.
I boasted of it to the judges over others
فأنتَso you إذاًthen منfrom ذرقdroppings جدكyour grandfather نابتٌsprouting
كماjust as تنبتsprout الأشجارthe trees منfrom ذرقdroppings الطيرِthe birds
So you, then, have sprouted from your grandfather’s droppings,
So you are one who stems from the roots of your grandfather
As trees sprout from the droppings of birds.
As trees grow from the roots of birds
