يكلفني مولايَ رجعَ جوابه

يكلفني مولايَ رجعَ جوابه

وما لتعاطي المعجزات وماليا

وما لتعاطي المعجزات وماليا

My lord charges me with sending him a reply.

My Lord commands me to answer His call

But what have I to do with attempting miracles?

Though I've no gift for miracles, nothing at all

أجيبك للفضل الذي أنت أهلُه

أجيبك للفضل الذي أنت أهلُه

وأكتب مما قد أفدت الأماليا

وأكتب مما قد أفدت الأماليا

I answer you for the excellence of which you are worthy.

I'll answer, for You deserve all gratitude

And I write out dictations from what you have imparted.

And write what my hopes have gained, once and for all

فأنت الذي طوَّقْتَني كل منة

فأنت الذي طوَّقْتَني كل منة

وأحسبت آمالي وأكسبت ماليا

وأحسبت آمالي وأكسبت ماليا

For you are the one who has hung every favor about my neck.

'Tis You who granted me every favor and boon

And you have satisfied my hopes and increased my wealth.

My hopes You fulfilled, and increased my fortune's haul

وأنت الذي أعدى الزمانَ كمالُهُ

وأنت الذي أعدى الزمانَ كمالُهُ

وصيَّرت أحرارَ الزمان مَواليا

وصيَّرت أحرارَ الزمان مَواليا

And you are the one whose perfection has spread through the age.

'Tis You who perfects all that time attains

And you have made the freemen of the age into bondsmen.

And made the free subservient, loyal vassals all

فلا زلت للفعل الجميل مواصلاً

فلا زلت للفعل الجميل مواصلاً

ولا زلتَ للشكر الجزيل مُواليا

ولا زلتَ للشكر الجزيل مُواليا

May you ever persevere in noble deeds,

So I persist in doing what good I may

And may you ever remain steadfast in abundant gratitude.

And You persist in rewarding me, great and small
