كَابْن نصرٍ تراه في الحرب ليثاً
وهوand he is بدرthe full moon الندىgenerosity وغيثand the rain of السماحmunificence
وهو بدر الندى وغيث السماح
Like Ibn Nasr, you see him in war—a lion;
Like Ibn Nasr—you see him as a lion in battle,
yet he is generosity’s full moon, liberality’s rain.
and he is the full moon of generosity and the rain of munificence.
ذكرهmention of him قدhas indeed ثنىbent قدودthe bodies of الندامىthe drinking companions
ذكره قد ثنى قدود الندامى
وأعادand restored الحياةَlife فيin الأقداحِthe goblets
وأعاد الحياةَ في الأقداحِ
