In my heart I visit the haunt of companionship and love,

And plunder letters from the hands of the breeze.

And whenever I question the lightning flickering from the sanctuary,

My tears hasten to meet it, answering and asking.

Ah, if only I knew—though wishes are but self-consolation—

Will the noble clan honor my bonds with them?

And do my former neighbors, as I once knew them,

Still bestow kindness on whoever comes asking?
