Claude 2

  1. يا من تمدُّ له الملوكُ أكفّها

    تدعوْ الإِله له بطول بقاءِ

    O you, to whom kings extend their palms,

    Praying to God for his long survival,

  2. أضحى وليُّ العهد نجلُك صائداً

    شأن الملوك العِليةِ العظمَاءِ

    The crown prince has become a hunter,

    Like the glorious, supreme kings,

  3. ورمى البزاةَ على القناة يصيده

    صيد الخليفة شارِدَ الأعداءِ

    And he shot the buzzards over the canal to hunt them,

    The caliph's game, the enemy fugitives.

  4. من كل خافقة الجناح إذا مشت

    تبدي اختيال الغادةِ العذراءِ

    With every flutter of wings when they walk,

    They show the coquetry of the shy gazelle,

  5. أهدت لنا سَبَجَ العيون وطوَّقت

    أرجاءها بعقيقةٍ حمراءِ

    They brought us black eyes and circled

    Their surroundings with red agate,

  6. واستاقت الياقوتَ في منقارها

    ومشت على المرجان في استحياءِ

    And they drew the ruby in their beaks

    And walked on coral in shyness,

  7. ووشت يد الأقدار في أعطافها

    وشياً زَرَى بالحلّة السّيَراءِ

    And the hand of fate adorned their necks

    With a necklace of excellent white pearls,

  8. ملك الطيور أتى إلى ملك الورى

    فاستاقَها لمؤمَّل الخلفاءِ

    The king of birds came to the king of mortals

    So he took them for the expected caliph,

  9. وقضى سماحك أن تجود ببعضها

    للعبد تُعليه على الجوزاءِ

    And your generosity decreed that you give some of them

    To your servant, elevating him over his peers.

  10. للهِ هل شرف يضاهي ذا الذي

    أوليته من منةِ غَرَّاءِ

    By God, what honor equals this

    That you have granted me from your noble gift?

  11. هَيْهاتَ أينَ جزاؤها من شكره

    يجزيك عنا الله خير جزاءِ

    Alas! Where is its reward from my gratitude

    That equals it? May God reward you best!

  12. أَوَلَسْتَ قد أوليتَ كلَّ خليفة

    شرقاً وغرْباً أصوب الآراءِ

    Have you not granted every caliph,

    East and west, the soundest opinion?

  13. فلصاحب الصفراء فخر خالد

    يَحظَى به من صاحب الحمراء

    So the owner of the Yellow Banner has eternal pride

    That he enjoys from the owner of the Red Banner,

  14. بيضاً وسمراً قد شرعتَ لنصره

    وأعنت بالبيضاءِ والصَّفراءِ

    White and brown, you have legislated for his victory

    And aided with the white and yellow.

  15. لا زلتَ شمس خلافة أبناؤه

    مثل البدور بمرقب العلياءِ

    You remain the sun of the caliphate of his sons

    Like the full moons in the highest horizon.
