منof النومsleep حتىuntil آذنَgave notice النجمthe star بالغروبْof setting
من النوم حتى آذنَ النجم بالغروبْ
And by your honor, after you left I tasted not a wink
By your truth I have not tasted a blink of sleep after you,
Of sleep until the star announced its setting.
Until the star heralded the sunset.

تنمُّ بريّا منك عاطرةِ الهبوبْ
And I met the wind on its nightly course, saying: perhaps it
I faced the wind's journey and said maybe
Would hint at a fragrance from you, sweet-scented as it blows.
It would bring a scent of your gentle breeze.

Until the face of morning appeared as if
Your face, as it dispels calamities with its radiant brow.
It were your smiling face when its gloom disappears.
فقلتُso I said لقلبيto my heart استشعرِfeel inwardly الأنسcomfort وابتهجand rejoice
فقلتُ لقلبي استشعرِ الأنس وابتهج
فإنfor if تبعدgrow distant الأجسامbodies لمnot تبعدgrow distant القلوبْhearts
فإن تبعد الأجسام لم تبعد القلوبْ
So I said to my heart: take comfort and rejoice,
So I said to my heart, feel the intimacy and rejoice,
For if bodies grow distant, hearts do not.
For though bodies are distant, hearts are still near.

And travel in God's protection, wherever turn
Go safely in God's care, wherever your mount takes you.
Your riding camels; do not fear that calamities may befall.
Fear no misfortunes that may befall you.
