O best of those whose generosity has won kings over,

and whose excellence has made him resemble the angels.

lasting safety and good fortune, were it not for you.

the sea of generosity, surging with your blessings.

Fresh ripe dates from closely layered palm clusters, as though

they had been threaded into strands, so beautiful were they.

Of every kind the Prophet used to love,

and, among those, the ones the Ansar loved.

like full moons, illuminating the deep darkness.

Drops of manifest light that took bodily form,

until we thought they were your guidance.

    لولا التجسّدُ خلتُهنَّ ثناكا

    Their delightful flavor is sweet in the mouth;

but for their bodily form, I would take them for praise of you.

The little children circled around them, as though they were

a flock of sandgrouse when they came to drink of your bounty.

Their whispered talk, whenever I heard their words,

and their calls were ‘My lord’ or ‘Your lord.’

They study together pages of prayers,

so that God may prolong your life.

So may you remain a sun in the sky of the caliphate,

and they the full moons, sustained by your radiance.
