ولوand if أُنشدتit were recited بينbetween العُذَيْبal-ʿUdhayb وبارِقٍand Bāriq
ولو أُنشدت بين العُذَيْب وبارِقٍ
لقالwould say رواةُtransmitters الغربthe West ياoh حبَّذَاhow lovely الشَّرْقُthe East
لقال رواةُ الغرب يا حبَّذَا الشَّرْقُ
And if it were recited between al-ʿUdhayb and Bāriq,
Were I to recite between Udhayb and Bariq,
the transmitters of the West would say, “Oh, how lovely the East!”
The transmitters of the West would say: What a marvelous orient!
