Generosity is a trait of the virtuous
I was fashioned to favor on the day of my birth.
I was created with a propensity for it from the day I was born
ذرينيleave me be فلوfor if أَنّيthat I أُخَلّدam made immortal بالغنىthrough wealth
ذريني فلو أَنّي أُخَلّد بالغنى
لكنتُthen I would be ضنيناًmiserly بالذيwith what ملكتhas acquired يديmy hand
لكنتُ ضنيناً بالذي ملكت يدي
Leave me be; were I made immortal through wealth,
Leave me be, though if I were to live in wealth
I would be miserly with what my hand has acquired.
I would become stingy with what my hands possess
