I came to your door many times, so you might admit me.
I came to your door several times seeking permission to enter,
So admission at the door was withheld from me.
But the door's permission became forbidden to me.

فقدfor indeed لعمريby my life أبوكمyour (plural) father كلَّمspoke to الذيباthe wolf
If you keep me out, proud of the wolf,
If you forbid me, enjoying the wolf,
For, by my life, your father did speak to the wolf.
By my life, your father has spoken to the wolf before.

Then what if he had spoken to the ferocious lion? In that case,
So what if the roarer spoke to the beast?
You would have left people as food and drink.
You left people as food and drink.

This al-Sunaydi, whose ugliness cannot be hidden,
This lord Siniidi's bloodiness is not hidden,
Speaks to the elephant, directing it upward and downward.
He speaks to the elephant, ascending and descending.

Indeed, I am a man of Quraysh, of its very stock;
I am a man from Quraish in its meadows,
My enemies cannot call me a liar.
The enemies cannot deny me.

Nor is intermarriage with Abyssinians among my ways,
Nor does the Abyssinians' kinship suit my morals,
Nor will you ever find the color of my face strange.
Nor will you see, for ages, my face as strange.

Go your way! I shall not come to you, nor shall I
Go away from me, I shall not come to you,
Be found at your door, seeking or sought.
Nor will I find your door sought or seeking.
