Ah, is there, to al-ʿAqīq’s shade and its people,

    to Aws’s palace, then al-Ḥazīz, a return?

And is there for me, around al-Muṣallā and along its slope,

as far as the wall, a pleasant morning outing and a longed-for destination?

Yet Nayyiḍah has not made me forget the river of al-Ubulla,

nor has distance made me forget the grounds of the two Mirbads.

There the budding-breasted maidens pitch no tent,

nor do Kaltham and Suʿād walk with graceful sway.

Truly, I find no peace in exile,

nor does any bed or bedding captivate me.
