ومازلتُand I have continued مذsince كنتَyou were فيin نعمةٍprosperity
ومازلتُ مذ كنتَ في نعمةٍ
يقلِّبُنيturns me about الدهرُtime فيin خَفضِهits ease
يقلِّبُني الدهرُ في خَفضِه
Ever since I enjoyed your favor, I have never ceased
And ever since you enjoyed prosperity, I have continued
to be buffeted by Time as it casts me down,
To be turned about by time amid its ease.
وأنزلُand I take my place منwith مَلِكٍa king قادِرٍpowerful
وأنزلُ من مَلِكٍ قادِرٍ
بمنزلةِin the position of البعضِone part منin relation to بَعضِهِa part of him
بمنزلةِ البعضِ من بَعضِهِ
and, capable though I am, to descend from my station
And with a powerful king I hold
to the standing one part holds in relation to another.
The place of one part of him in relation to another.
