منwhoever شلcarried بقعاBaq‘a (the world) علىupon جنبيهhis two flanks ماطاقهاcould not bear her
من شل بقعا على جنبيه ماطاقها
ماطاقهاcould not bear her إلاexcept كريمnoble الوجهof countenance خلاقهاher Creator
ماطاقها إلا كريم الوجه خلاقها
Whoever carried Baq‘a upon his flanks could not bear her.
She who wears a spot on her cheek cannot bear it
None could bear her but the noble-faced One, her Creator.
None can bear it but the generous faced Creator
أماdo you not ترىsee الطيرthe birds ذيthat تسرحgo out علىin search of أرزاقهاtheir sustenance
أما ترى الطير ذي تسرح على أرزاقها
لاno مالwealth معهاwith them ولاnor هيthey تدخلenter أسواقهاtheir markets
لا مال معها ولا هي تدخل أسواقها
Do you not see the birds that go out seeking their sustenance?
Do you not see the birds wandering freely for their livelihood
They have no wealth, nor do they enter their markets.
They have no money nor do they enter markets
إلاonly علىupon اللهGod خالقهاtheir Creator ورزاقهاand their Provider
إلا على الله خالقها ورزاقها
تسرحgo out جويعهhungry وتضوىand return home بهwith it إلىup to أحداقهاtheir eyes
تسرح جويعه وتضوى به إلى أحداقها
They rely only on God, their Creator and Provider.
Except trusting in Allah their Creator and Provider
They go out hungry and return home filled with it up to their eyes.
They wander hungry and spend the night tucked in their wings
فانذقso fling ببقعاwith Baq‘a (the world) إلىto الحدthe edge بهwith it علىupon أشداقهاher jaws
فانذق ببقعا إلى الحد به على أشداقها
إنwhether هيshe بخلعهin a fine robe وإنand whether هيshe لبستdonned أخلاقهاher threadbare clothes
إن هي بخلعه وإن هي لبست أخلاقها
So fling Baq‘a to the edge, down upon her jaws,
So taste O spotty cheek the limit of bitterness on your lips
whether she wears a fine robe or dons her threadbare clothes.
Whether it stays or its manners change
لاdo not تشتهيهاdesire her وإنand even if هيshe كحلتlined with kohl أحداقهاher eyes
لا تشتهيها وإن هي كحلت أحداقها
لأنهاbecause she كثرتhas increased أذوتهاher harm ونقناقهاand her nagging
لأنها كثرت أذوتها ونقناقها
Do not desire her, even if she lines her eyes with kohl.
I do not covet you even if you line your eyes with kohl
For her harm and her nagging have multiplied.
For you have increased your harms and vexations
وزادand increased فيin الوقتthe time هذاthis كثرتthe abundance of اشعاقهاher troubles
وزاد في الوقت هذا كثرت اشعاقها
ماعادthere is no longer فيهاin her سوىexcept المحنهhardship لمنfor whoever ذاقهاhas tasted her
ماعاد فيها سوى المحنه لمن ذاقها
And in these times her troubles have grown still more numerous.
And in this time your flames have multiplied
Nothing remains in her but hardship for whoever has tasted her.
Nothing remains in you but affliction for those who taste you
