The best courses in affairs are the middle ones.

The middle way is best in all matters

So keep to the middle course in all things.

So hold fast to moderation in things

واحذر من الإفراط والتفريط

واحذر من الإفراط والتفريط

أنهما شطط

أنهما شطط

And beware of excess and neglect:

And beware of excess and negligence

both are departures from proper bounds.

For they are deviance

وهي طريق المصطفى

وهي طريق المصطفى

المجتبي الهادي فقط

المجتبي الهادي فقط

This is the path of the Chosen One,

And it is the path of Mustafa

the elect, the guide—none other.

The chosen guide, only

وكذا صحابته فهم

وكذا صحابته فهم

سلكوا على هذا النمط

سلكوا على هذا النمط

And likewise his Companions, for they

And so too his companions, they

followed this pattern.

Followed this model

وكذلك التابع لهم

وكذلك التابع لهم

في كل سير أو محط

في كل سير أو محط

And likewise whoever follows them,

And so too their followers

in every journey or stopping place.

In every history or stage

واحذر سواها أنها

واحذر سواها أنها

عين الغلط عين الغلط

عين الغلط عين الغلط

And beware of any other path, for it is

And beware anything else, for it

sheer error, sheer error.

Is wrong, is wrong

من حاد عن سنن النبي

من حاد عن سنن النبي

فعلى مناخره سقط

فعلى مناخره سقط

Whoever strays from the Prophet's ways

Whoever turns from the Prophet's way

falls upon his nostrils.

Falls flat on his face

فاشدد يديك بها ولا

فاشدد يديك بها ولا

تعدل عنها قط قط

تعدل عنها قط قط

So hold fast to it with both hands, and do not

So hold firm to it and do not

turn away from it, ever, ever.

Deviate ever, ever

واحذر من العادات والبدع

واحذر من العادات والبدع

التي بهما ارتبط

التي بهما ارتبط

And beware of customs and innovations

And beware of innovations and heresies

to both of which he has become attached.

To which they are tied

كم من فتى فغدا بها

كم من فتى فغدا بها

في أسفل السفل يحط

في أسفل السفل يحط

How many a young man has thus, through them, come

How many youths by them

to be cast down into the lowest depths!

Fell to the lowest low

وكر وبه لا تنتهي

وكر وبه لا تنتهي

وهمومه نحو البطط

وهمومه نحو البطط

And his sorrows never end,

Evils that have no end

and his worries turn toward [unclear word].

With worries like ducks

فانبذ لها واترك لها

فانبذ لها واترك لها

إن كنت من أهل النش

إن كنت من أهل النش

So cast them aside and abandon them,

So reject them and leave them

if you are among the people of [unclear word].

If you are of noble stock

والزم الها واحدا

والزم الها واحدا

من فاز به يغتبط

من فاز به يغتبط

And cleave to one God;

And hold to the One alone

whoever succeeds through Him rejoices.

Whoever succeeds through Him is joyous

ثم الصلاة على الذي

ثم الصلاة على الذي

عليه جبريل هبط

عليه جبريل هبط

Then blessings upon the one

Then salutations upon the one

to whom Gabriel descended,

To whom Jibril descended

وعلى الصحاب وآله

وعلى الصحاب وآله

ما كاتب للحرف خط

and upon the Companions and his family,

And his companions and family

as long as any scribe pens a letter.

However long the writer's pen flows

والحمدلله على

أفضاله عد النقط

And praise be to God for

His bounties, as many times as there are dots.

His endless favors
