Praise be to God, our Lord, the Merciful, the All-Forgiving.

Praise be to God, Possessor of bounty, the Generous, the Appreciative.

Praise be to God, as many times as there are women and men.

Praise be to God, as many times as there are blessings and good things.

Praise be to God—how many veils He has draped over us!

Praise be to God—how many evils He has kept from us!

Lord, Yours is praise in this world and on the Day of Resurrection.

Lord, Yours is praise—praise as enduring as the ages.

Lord, Yours is praise, as many times as there are leaves and birds.

Indeed, I confess my inadequacy in praising and thanking You.

Indeed, I myself am forgetful, hard-hearted, deeply unjust and ungrateful.

This is true and honest; anything else is falsehood.

And broken promises are widespread, along with lying and wickedness.

And how often we offer a prayer with no attentiveness!

We know and understand but do not act, and delusion stays with us.

We act and play as though we were not bound for the graves.

And thought and worry are absorbed in this world of ill fortune.

How long will this last? O Lord, may there be a breath of light!

O Lord, O Lord, O Knower of what breasts conceal!

Set our hearts right, and raise us to lofty palaces.

And expand our breasts through surrender to You in all affairs.

We accept Your decree and entrust all to You, in secret and in the open.

And we never behold any but You, O Magnificent, Ever-Patient One.

We walk by the sacred law, neither straying from it nor turning back.

We see calamities as benefits, since they hold rewards.

For He is the Just; exalted is God above doing wrong.

Rather, within their folds lie secrets not inscribed in the depths of written lines.

So be a servant to Him, and gain gifts and joy.

And surrender the matter; you will gain contentment and happiness.

And from God, on the Day of Resurrection, you shall have a garden and fair-eyed companions.

And whoever resents the decreed fate will meet destruction.

And worry and grief continually surge up from within him.

You see him forever circling amid sorrow and troubles.

And the Lord is displeased with the resentful; awaken, O you who turn away!

And the root of all sins, trials and evils

Is your love of this world, while your Lord has guaranteed you passage.

And nothing of your world is ever yours but passing through,

Or something you send ahead, or something that has passed—this does not perish.

And what you leave behind—beware of it, O cautious one.

For this world is nothing but deceptive enjoyment.

O Lord, blot out the sins that break our backs.

And accept our repentance—a sincere repentance that purifies.

And grant a good ending when the time comes to journey to the graves.

And, my Lord, send blessings and peace at evening and at dawn

Upon the Prophet, the Messenger of God, the full moon of full moons,

And his family, companions and followers—what excellent leaders!

And praise be to God, as many times as there are fish in the seas,

And as many as the raindrops from clouds, the trees and the seeds.
