1. يا سالم إن شئت السلامه

    فوض وسلم للسلام

    O Salim, if you wish for safety,

    entrust your affairs and submit to the Source of Peace.

  2. لا تعترض تلق الملامه

    فاحذر تعرض للملام

    Do not object, or you will incur blame;

    so beware of exposing yourself to reproach.

  3. وإن شئت تظفر بالكرامه

    فاصحب لاقوام كرام

    And if you wish to attain honor,

    then keep company with noble people,

  4. أهل التقى والاستقامه

    من صاحب القوم استقام

    people of piety and uprightness.

    Whoever keeps company with these people becomes upright.

  5. محبهم يوم القيامه

    معهم وفي كل قيام

    One who loves them, on the Day of Resurrection,

    will be with them, and whenever they stand.

  6. والعلم خذه لك علامه

    واعمل وعلم يا غلام

    And take knowledge as your guiding sign,

    and act and teach, O young man,

  7. بالرفق ما تلق ندامه

    ويكون اسمع للكلام

    with gentleness; you will encounter no regret,

    and he will be more receptive to what is said.

  8. واطرح على رأسك عمامه

    من المحبه والهيام

    And place upon your head a turban

    of love and passionate longing.

  9. عسى لنا منه قلامه

    نسعد بها بين الأنام

    May a clipping of it be ours,

    through which we find happiness among humankind.

  10. يا فوز من نوره أمامه

    يسعى به حين الظلام

    How fortunate is one whose light is before him,

    as he makes his way by it in darkness.

  11. واجعل لك الاذكار كارشامه

    بل قوت قلبك والأدام

    And make the invocations like a morsel for yourself [uncertain reading],

    rather, your heart's sustenance and relish.

  12. ودع الملل ودع السآمة

    بل دم على الذكر دوام

    And leave boredom behind, and leave weariness behind;

    rather, persist in remembrance continually.

  13. في حال سيرك والإقامه

    اجعله شربك والطعام

    As you travel and as you stay,

    make it your drink and food.

  14. به الفتى يبلغ مرامه

    وكم كرامات عظام

    Through it a young man attains his aim,

    and how many great miracles!

  15. والقلب حله بالسلامه

    من كل الأخلاق الذمام

    And adorn the heart with freedom

    from all blameworthy traits.

  16. تحل في دار الكرامه

    دار الرضا دار سلام

    You will dwell in the abode of honor,

    the abode of contentment, an abode of peace.

  17. واذكر مماتك والقيامه

    يوم الغرق يوم الزحام

    And remember your death and the Resurrection,

    the day of drowning, the day of the throng.

  18. فيه التقاصص بالظلامه

    وفثيه يشتد الخصام

    On it, wrongs are requited,

    and on it disputes grow fierce.

  19. يا ويل من كثر انتقامه

    من كسبه الفعل الحرام

    Woe to the one upon whom retribution falls heavily,

    for his committing forbidden deeds.

  20. ذو العقل من يخزن كلامه

    وجد في حفظه وقام

    The person of reason is one who holds back his speech,

    and strives to safeguard it and stands watch,

  21. يحرس ويسلم من ندامه

    يفرح إذا حان الحمام

    guarding it and escaping regret;

    he rejoices when death arrives.

  22. صلوات ربي مستدامة

    مع السلام المستدام

    May my Lord's blessings be everlasting,

    together with unceasing peace,

  23. على الظلل بالغمامه

    والآل والصحب الكرام

    upon the one shaded by the cloud,

    and his family and noble companions,

  24. أهل الإمامة والزعامة

    واختم لنا أحسن ختام

    people of leadership and authority.

    And grant us the best of endings

  25. للعمر إذ حان انصرامه

    واغفر لنا كل اجترام

    to life, when the hour of its ending comes,

    and forgive us every transgression.

  26. والحمدلله ختامه

    أعني كلامي والنظام

    And 'praise be to God' is its ending—

    I mean my words and the verse.
