ياO أهلpeople of العقولthe minds السالمهsound وأهلand people of القلوبthe hearts العالمهknowing
يا أهل العقول السالمه وأهل القلوب العالمه
قولواsay بهمهwith purpose عازمهresolute
قولوا بهمه عازمه
O people of sound minds and people of knowing hearts,
O people of sound minds, peace be upon you, and people of enlightened hearts,
Say with resolute purpose,
Say with determined resolve, and with truthful, steadfast intention,
وبصدقand with sincerity of نيهintention جازمهfirm
وبصدق نيه جازمه
ياO اللهGod بحسنwith the goodness of الخاتمهthe ending
يا الله بحسن الخاتمه
And with sincere, firm intention:
"O Allah, with a good end."
O God, grant us a good end.
For it is the ultimate goal, as the people of prohibition have said.
فهيfor it إليهاto it المنتهىthe ultimate end قدindeed قالsaid أربابmasters of النهيreason
فهي إليها المنتهى قد قال أرباب النهي
ياO اللهGod بهاwith it يااللهO God بهاwith it
يا الله بها ياالله بها
For all finally comes to it, as the masters of reason have said.
O Allah, with it, O Allah, with it,
O God, grant us that; O God, grant us that.
A wondrous, perfect supplication.

ياO اللهGod بحسنwith the goodness of الخاتمهthe ending
يا الله بحسن الخاتمه
A wondrous, complete invocation.
O Allah, with a good end.

O our Lord, O our Lord, be gentle with us and forgive us,
ياربناO our Lord ياربناO our Lord الطفbe gentle بناwith us واغفرلناand forgive us
ياربنا ياربنا الطف بنا واغفرلنا
واختمand bring to an end بخيرانwith good, if دناdraws near
واختم بخيران دنا
O our Lord, O our Lord, be gentle with us and forgive us.
And conclude our life with goodness,
And grant us a good end, should there draw near
During the time of trials.

The time of the Day of the Overwhelming Calamity.

For death is coming soon, each has a share of it.
فالموتfor death آتcoming عنin قريبa short while كلeveryone لهfor him منهof it نصيبa share
فالموت آت عن قريب كل له منه نصيب
منwhoever كانwas دانlowly اوor نسيبnobly born
من كان دان او نسيب
For death is coming soon; everyone has a share in it,
Whether one is close or distant,
Whether lowly or nobly born.
It is a general affliction.
فهيfor it مصيبهa calamity عامةuniversal
فهي مصيبه عامة
ياO اللهGod بحسنwith the goodness of الخاتمهthe ending
يا الله بحسن الخاتمه
For it is a calamity common to all.
O Allah, with a good end.
O God, grant us a good end.
Then when you die, they will wash you, enshroud you,
ثمthen إذاwhen متهyou die أتوكthey come to you وغسلوكand wash you وكفنوكand shroud you
ثم إذا مته أتوك وغسلوك وكفنوك
وشيعوكand escort you to burial وألحدوكand place you in the grave's niche
وشيعوك وألحدوك
Then, when you die, they come to you, wash you, and shroud you.
Escort you, and bury you,
And escort you to burial and lay you in the grave's niche.
And you will become a lifeless corpse.
وصرتand you become جيفهa carcass خامهputrid
وصرت جيفه خامه
يااللهO God بحسنwith the goodness of الخاتمهthe ending
ياالله بحسن الخاتمه
And you become a putrid carcass.
O Allah, with a good end.
O God, grant us a good end.
O Lord, be my supporter, when the forehead's bone decays,
ياربO Lord كنbe ليfor me يامعينO Helper إذاwhen رشحsweats عظمbone الجبينthe brow
يارب كن لي يامعين إذا رشح عظم الجبين
واختمand bring to an end إليهto Him باليقينwith certainty
واختم إليه باليقين
O Lord, stand by me, O Helper, when the bone of the brow sweats.
And let me conclude with certainty,
And bring me to Him at life's end, with certainty,
Before the blame of the critic.
منfrom قبلbefore لومthe reproach of اللائمهthe reproacher
من قبل لوم اللائمه
ياO اللهGod بحسنwith the goodness of الخاتمهthe ending
يا الله بحسن الخاتمه
Before the reproacher's reproach.
O Allah, with a good end.
O God, grant us a good end.
This world is not for settlement, rather it is for passage.
دنياكyour world ماnot هيit للمقرfor abiding وإنماand only هيit للممرfor passing through
دنياك ما هي للمقر وإنما هي للممر
فافكرso reflect وامعنand delve deeply فيin النظرcontemplation
فافكر وامعن في النظر
Your world is not for abiding; it is only for passing through.
So ponder and reflect attentively,
So reflect, and be thorough in your contemplation.
And do not be like the despairing.
ولاand do not تكنbe كالسائمهlike grazing livestock
ولا تكن كالسائمه
ياO اللهGod بحسنwith the goodness of الخاتمهthe ending
يا الله بحسن الخاتمه
And do not be like grazing livestock.
O Allah, with a good end.
O God, grant us a good end.
O Lord, we have no deeds or earnings, all our work is lapse,
ياربO Lord مامعناwe have no عملa deed وكسبناand what we have earned كلهall of it زللmissteps
يارب مامعنا عمل وكسبنا كله زلل
لكنbut لنافيكfor us, in You أملhope
لكن لنافيك أمل
O Lord, we have no deeds, and all we have earned is error.
But in You we have hope,
But in You we have hope.
That revives the decaying bones.
تحييYou revive العظامthe bones الرامهdecayed
تحيي العظام الرامه
يااللهO God بحسنwith the goodness of الخاتمهthe ending
ياالله بحسن الخاتمه
You revive the decayed bones.
O Allah, with a good end.
O God, grant us a good end.
The time of departure has come, and life has passed in misguidance,
قدindeed حانhas come حينthe time of الإنتقالdeparture والعمرand life ولىhas passed فيin ضلالerror
قد حان حين الإنتقال والعمر ولى في ضلال
لكنbut نرجوwe hope ذاthe Possessor of الجلالmajesty
لكن نرجو ذا الجلال
The time of departure has come, and life has passed in error.
But we hope in the Majestic One,
But we hope that the Possessor of Majesty,
By the station of the father of Fatima.
بجاهby the honored rank of والدthe father of فاطمهFatimah
بجاه والد فاطمه
يمننHe graciously bestows بحسنwith the goodness of الخاتمهthe ending
يمنن بحسن الخاتمه
By the honored rank of Fatimah's father,
To bless us with a good end.
Will graciously grant us a good end.
