اغتنم ساعتك واحذر تكن غر مقمور

O Husayn, take heart, and open your breast with light.

O Hussein open your heart to me and illuminate my chest with light

Seize your hour, and beware lest you be unwary and outplayed.

Seize your moment and beware not to be unprepared

اغتنم اغتنم من قبل ما تمسي مقبور

اغتنم اغتنم من قبل ما تمسي مقبور

ما الهنا الامع من كان ذاكر أو مذكور

ما الهنا الامع من كان ذاكر أو مذكور

Seize it, seize it, before you lie buried.

Seize, seize before you become buried

Happiness is only with one who remembers or is remembered.

None is our deity except the one who is remembered or mentioned

يذكر الله في الأنفاس ناظر ومنظور

يذكر الله في الأنفاس ناظر ومنظور

كل شيء سوى المولى هبا ومنثور

كل شيء سوى المولى هبا ومنثور

He remembers God with every breath, beholding and beheld.

Who remembers God with every breath, the seer and the seen

Everything besides the Lord is dust, scattered abroad.

Everything other than the Master is false and scattered

غير شيء يقرب منه طالبه مأجور

غير شيء يقرب منه طالبه مأجور

وادع لي يا حسين إني مقصر ومغرور

وادع لي يا حسين إني مقصر ومغرور

Except what brings one near Him: its seeker is rewarded.

Nothing brings one near Him except seeking, for the seeker is rewarded

And pray for me, O Husayn: I am remiss and deluded.

And pray for me, O Hussein, for I am neglectful and deceived

إنني يا أخي ملان بالإثم والزور

إنني يا أخي ملان بالإثم والزور

ادع لي يا حسين أن يمسي القلب معمور

ادع لي يا حسين أن يمسي القلب معمور

Indeed, O my brother, I am full of sin and falsehood.

I am, my brother, filled with sin and falsehood

Pray for me, O Husayn, that the heart may flourish,

Pray for me, O Hussein, that my heart becomes filled

بالهدى والتقى والنور مكبوس معمور

بالهدى والتقى والنور مكبوس معمور

همه كله في الخير موقوف مقصور

همه كله في الخير موقوف مقصور

With guidance, piety, and light—packed full and flourishing,

With guidance, piety and light, overwhelmed and filled

Its every concern devoted and confined to goodness,

His every thought is of good, halted and confined

مبتهج ممتلى بالله مشروع مسرور

مبتهج ممتلى بالله مشروع مسرور

ليس به متسع للغير لاذه ولا الحور

ليس به متسع للغير لاذه ولا الحور

Joyful, filled with God, open and glad,

Joyous, fulfilled with God, proper and delighted

With no room in it for anything else—neither this [world] nor the houris.

In him there is no room for others, not for maidens or paradise

نطلب الله ذي فضله لنا غير محصور

نطلب الله ذي فضله لنا غير محصور

يا سميع الدعا أمنن على عبد محسور

يا سميع الدعا أمنن على عبد محسور

We beseech God, whose bounty to us is boundless.

We seek God whose bounty has no limit

O Hearer of prayer, bestow favor upon an exhausted servant,

O Hearer of supplications, bless Your confined servant

قاصر الباع مقصوص الجناحين مكسور

قاصر الباع مقصوص الجناحين مكسور

رب قل احتيالي ضاع عمري وأنا أدور

رب قل احتيالي ضاع عمري وأنا أدور

Short of reach, his two wings clipped, broken.

With short reach, clipped wings, and broken

Lord, my resourcefulness has dwindled; my life is wasted, and I wander

Lord, my strategies have failed, my life passed as I wandered

في أمور أرى الفاعل لها غير مشكور

في أمور أرى الفاعل لها غير مشكور

فانظر الحال يمسي الحال مصلوح مجبور

فانظر الحال يمسي الحال مصلوح مجبور

In affairs whose doer, I see, receives no thanks.

In matters whose doer I see is unthanked

So look upon my state, that it may be set right and mended,

So look upon my state as it becomes repaired and compelled

والشر وراتجلت والذنب ممحى ومغفور

والشر وراتجلت والذنب ممحى ومغفور

والختام الحسن عند إنتقالي من الدور

والختام الحسن عند إنتقالي من الدور

And evils cleared away, and sin erased and forgiven,

And evil dispersed and sins erased and forgiven

And a good ending when I depart from the abodes.

And the good conclusion upon my transition from this abode

والصلاة على المذكور في النجم والطور

والصلاة على المذكور في النجم والطور

النبي المشفع عند ما ينفخ الصور

النبي المشفع عند ما ينفخ الصور

And blessings upon the one mentioned in al-Najm (The Star) and al-Tur (The Mount),

And blessings upon the one mentioned in the Star and Mount

The Prophet whose intercession is accepted when the trumpet is blown.

The interceding Prophet when the trumpet is blown
