رسول الله جئنا زائر ينا

وبالأوزار جئنا مثقلينا

Messenger of God, we have come as visitors,

and we have come weighed down with sins.

ومن أمر مهول قد عرانا

أتينا هار بين وشاردينا

From a terrifying ordeal that has befallen us,

we have come fleeing and wandering.

أناس قد طغوا وبغوا علينا

ولا راعوا حقوق الأقربينا

People have tyrannized and acted unjustly against us,

and have not respected the rights of close kin.

ونالوا ما تمنوا من أذانا

ولا قنعوا بما فعلوه فينا

They inflicted on us the harm they wished,

and were not content with what they had done to us.

تشفع أرحم الثقلين فينا

فمازلت شفيع المذنبيا

Intercede for us, most merciful of humankind and jinn,

for you have always been the intercessor for sinners.

تشفع سيدي فينا فأنا

من الأهوال جئنا حائرينا

Intercede for us, my master, for we

have come bewildered by these terrors.

تشفع يارسول الله أنا

بكم ياسيدي مستشفعونا

Intercede, O Messenger of God; we

seek intercession through you, my master.

ألسنا بالقرابة حين ندعي

وبالأولاد ندعي والبنينا

Are we not, when named, reckoned as your kin,

and named as your children and sons?

أيرجو النفع منك بنو فلان

ويحرمه بنوك الأقربونا

Do the sons of so-and-so hope for benefit from you,

while your own closest sons are denied it?

فحاشا فضلكم أن تهملونا

ونرجع عن نداكم خائبينا

So far be it from your generosity to neglect us,

and for us to return from your bounty disappointed.

وأنت أرحم الثقلين قلبا

وأرأفهم بهم رفقا ولينا

You are the most merciful of humankind and jinn at heart,

and the most compassionate toward them in gentleness and tenderness,

وأوصلهم إلى الأرحام طرا

وأكرم من أتى بك مستعينا

and the most devoted to every bond of kinship,

and the most generous to whoever comes seeking your aid.

رسول الله إنا قد نزلنا

بكم ياخير كل المنزلينا

Messenger of God, we have alighted

with you, O best of all hosts.

رسول الله ضقت الآن ذرعا

وصار القلب مكتر باخرينا

Messenger of God, I can now endure no more,

and the heart has become distressed and sorrowful [reading uncertain].

رسول الله إنا قد أتينا

إليكم ناظرين وطامعينا

Messenger of God, we have come

to you, looking expectantly and full of hope.

ونرجوان نفوز بمارجونا

وبالمطلوب نرجع فائزينا

And we hope to attain what we have hoped for,

and return successful, with what we sought.

فقل ياسيدي حقا نصرتهم

وفزتم بالمطالب أجمعينا

Then say, my master, “Truly, I have aided them,

and you have all attained what you sought.”

وقم ياسيدي واقع عدانا

وبدد شملهم شيأ مبينا

Arise, my master, and fight our enemies,

and visibly scatter their gathered ranks [wording uncertain].

وإن كنا عصينا أو أسأنا

فإن الله خير الغافرينا

And if we have disobeyed or done wrong,

then God is indeed the best of those who forgive.

وجينا بافتقار وإنكسار

وذل خائفين ونادمينا

And we have come in need and brokenness,

and humility, fearful and remorseful.

وقفنا تحت بابكم خضوعا

ومن أوزارنا مستغفرينا

We stood beneath your door in submission,

and seeking forgiveness for our sins.

ولم نطل المقالة بالشكاوي

وإكثار التوجع والأنينا

We have not prolonged our speech with complaints

and abundant lamentation and groaning,

لأن الحال لا يخفى عليكم

وأنتم بالحوادث عارفونا

because the situation is not hidden from you,

and you are acquainted with what has happened.

ولكنا تروحنا بهذا

لانا سيدي مستوجعونا

But we have sought relief through this,

because, my master, we are in pain.

فعفوا سيدي منكم وصفحا

فحلمكم يعم الجاهلينا

So we seek pardon and forgiveness from you, my master,

for your forbearance embraces the ignorant.

وقل قضيت حوائجكم جميعا

صلحنا شأنكم دنيا ودينا

And say, “I have fulfilled all your needs;

we have set your affairs right in worldly life and religion.”

عليك الله صلى كل حين

وسلم عد أيام السنينا

May God bless you at every moment,

and grant you peace as many times as the days of the years,

وآلك والصحاب ونختمنها

بحمدالله رب العالمينا

and your family and companions; and we conclude it

with praise of God, Lord of all worlds.
